The iRobot Roomba i3+ is a fantastic robot vacuum that comes with many smart features that make it easier to maintain. It's also simple to use and set up. Its ability to resume where it left off in our tests is another impressive feature. It could do this for 77 minutes on one cleaning, before the battery ran out.
The i3+ EVO is different from the other robot vacuums we have tested, has a self-emptying bin that automatically dumps debris in an external dirt compartment located on its charging base when it's full. This reduces hands-on maintenance and helps keep the i3+ EVO from overfilling, however it still requires manually emptied after every cleaning session. The i3+ EVO dustbin can hold 2.4L, which is enough to last through four to five cleaning sessions.
This model, like the i7, uses cutting-edge floor-tracking sensors that create maps. It also lets you navigate through neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only keep one map, whereas the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones, but not for the i3+ EVO.
While the i3+ EVO is more effective in removing dirt and debris from surfaces than the other robovacs we review ed however, it's not the most effective in terms of cleaning corners and edges. It's also not as gentle on furniture, despite being surprisingly quiet. It moved chairs away from walls, and made some collisions with the sides of our test bed, and got stuck on cords and toys during testing.
2. Black & Decker Pro Q5
If you're looking to expand your collection of robot vacuums or are just starting out using one, the Q5 Pro is a great option. It packs serious power, advanced navigation and easy automation into a slick design at an affordable price. It's the best model for the money available right now and even beats the Roborock models that are much more expensive in many ways.
This robot is excellent in cleaning floors that are not clean, and its avoidance tech assists it in staying away from furniture legs and other obstacles. It also does well on carpet and earns an excellent score in our tests of navigation. The only issue is that it's more raucous than the other models we test and it doesn't do as well in our owner satisfaction or predicted reliability tests.
The Q5 Pro comes with a large dust bin that is 770ml. This means you won't have to empty it as frequently as other 2-in-1 robots. The Q5 Pro's 240-minute run time is also impressive when contrasted with other 2-in-1 robots we have tested. When the battery is low, it returns automatically to its dock, where it recharges and resumes cleaning where it began. The feature is scheduled to be added in 2025. Apple updated its footnote on its website in November of this year to reflect the fact that the feature was delayed until 2025. It can also find its way to the base station in case it is unable to recharge its batteries during an exercise of cleaning.
It also comes with a spot cleaning mode that allows you to clean or mop an area of your floor. And it can be manually programmed to follow a specific path, which is useful if you have narrow staircases or hallways. In our carpet cleaning test it was successful in cleaning carpets. However, it was unable to clean carpets and rugs with larger piles. It is also possible to set it to automatically lift the mop pad once it comes in contact with carpet. This is a wonderful option if you wish to not mop your carpets.
